About
Nikos Dikas was born 1979 in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he lives and works as an architect.
His architectural practice as a freelance architect involves private projects of different scales.
Besides this he researches the connection between architecture, arts and public space.
Part of his personal architectural investigation and writings regard the contemporary urban environment and role of architectural gestures in the public space.
He rejects the idea of architecture as something different from the rest of the artistic expression, and believes that its main target remains the shaping of meaningful spaces that include or create emotions.
His approach is based on the belief on the role of contemporary creation as a factor of change and dynamic in the public life of the city.
He is interested in the ability that certain public spaces (existing areas, buildings or spaces) have to provide certain ideas, feelings etc to the artist, becoming the motive for a fruitful dialogue between the architect-artist and the public space.
Through these and taking advantage of creative platforms as architectural competitions, artist residencies and open calls but also as a free creator of independent projects he interacts with the urban environment.

“Oooh…Oido…”
Architectural gestures in Oido central pier.
Paraphrasing the interjection from painting “Ohhh…Alright…” (1964) by Roy Lichtenstein, but also as a continuation of existing urban slogans in nearby cities (“Bravo! Ansan” and “Wow! Siheung”) “Oooh….Oido…” is the nick name for this research by design remodeling project.
It synopsizes the idea of Oido central pier as more than just a functional fishery place and a seafood market: a public space of enjoyment, sea life pleasure, easy urban escape, fresh taste sensuality. (More at http://nikosdikas.blogspot.com/2011/08/artist-in-residence-2011.html)
